Letter 101

Dear Sister,

I know that your journey has only just begun and that the future may seem so far away. There are a vast many of endless possibilities and opportunities in store for you just waiting to be explored, and I couldn’t be any happier and more excited for you. I may have travelled the road before you so just consider keeping what I say in mind.

Enjoy the innocence of your youth as best that you can. You’ll never be the same age twice, you may not visit or sight see the same places again, and you don’t yet have the heavy burdens that come with age. Cherish the freedom in your time to do what makes you happy, to skip what doesn’t, and to fulfill your every desire to make life feel great.

Go after every dream planted in your heart because you can surely accomplish anything you set your mind to. The road may seem rough, but taking care of yourself through discipline and independence will keep you on your path.

Of course, I will always be in your corner to support, encourage, and guide you, but in the tragic event that I am no longer in reach, you’ll have to be self-sufficient. I’m sure that one day your handsome Prince Charming will come to sweep you off your feet, and you will feel like there’s no reason to have to care for yourself. But he too may not be there for long, whether by choice or not, and then who are you to lean on? Sadly, Mom and Dad can’t stay here forever as much as we would like them to. So, learn to be capable and independent.

I wish not to worry you so with all these precautionary tips and tidbits, but instead, rather enlighten you to the truth. Life has its many moments of joyous encounters, but it can get tough. Sometimes the only person that can and will save you, protect you, and care for you, is you.
